A self-guided tour through eight private gardens throughout Sanford's Historic District and neighborhood of Mayfair.

About the event:

Meander your way down tree-lined streets and admire the well-preserved architecture, wrap around porches, verandas, and manicured gardens. Savor the springtime weather and be inspired for your own yard projects as you stroll through gardens overflowing with flowers, native plants, and creative landscapes.

After gathering inspiration, visit the marketplace at Centennial Park (400 S Park Ave, in front of the check in location at Bettye Smith Cultural Arts Center). There will be plenty of plants, art, jewelry, and garden-themed gifts just in time for Mother's Day! Here you can also enjoy iced refreshments and delicious lunch options.

We think it's the perfect way to kickoff springtime in beautiful Historic Sanford!

This event will feature an artisan vendor market, local gardening and wildlife educators, plein air artists, and a tea lunch.

When and where:

10 am - 4 pm: Pick up your wristband and map at Bettye D. Smith Cultural Arts Center (119 W. 5th St, Sanford) prior to enjoying the tour. Check-in opens at 9:30 am, gardens open at 10 am.

9:30 am - 4:30 pm: Shop the plant sale and vendor market at Centennial Park (400 S Park Ave, Sanford) and find perfect springtime gifts!

Tickets (on day of event):

Day of tickets will be sold at Bettye D. Smith Cultural Arts Center (119 W. 5th St, Sanford) and that is also where you will need to check-in for presale tickets.

We will be hosting attendance at a Pittsburgh Pirate Spring Training baseball game on Tuesday March 12, 2024.   The Pirates will be playing the Atlanta Braves at Lecom Park in Bradenton, FL.  Attendance at a game in a small venue like Lecom Park is truly a great experience and a great way to get ready for the regular season of ‘Bucco’ baseball. Our block of seats is undercover (rain / sun) in Section 4 (upper section behind home plate).

We will also host a pre-game event at a local restaurant or tavern beginning at 11:00 a.m. for folks who would like to grab a bite to eat prior to the game. The optional pre-game gathering will be held at the Motorworks Brewing Company beginning at 11:00 a.m.  All purchases at the restaurant would be paid separately. Motorworks is just a 7 minute walk from the Lecom Park.

Game time is 1:05 pm (updated).  Ticket price will be $26 per person for the game. If you are attending, please prepay the $26 ticket price by Zelle or check. Detailed instructions can be found under the "Member Payments" section of our website.  The tickets will be distributed electronically upon receipt from the Pirates.  Parking in one the satellite lots will be about $10. 

This event is open to all SWRA and SURE members and guests as well as previous Westinghouse employees.  We are soliciting initial interest in attendance to plan the pre-game event, estimate the number of tickets we need to block, and for attendees to “save the date”.   So let us know by submitting an RSVP (before January 31, 2024) if you are interested in attending! RSVP extended; please submit before end of day on February 14, 2024

We will be cruising the St. Johns River and learning about Central Florida’s unique wildlife in its natural environment.  This leisurely boat ride will last two hours as we explore the river and enjoy the wildlife.  During the tour, we will learn about the history of the indigenous people and the European explorers. They will also discuss the timber and agricultural development in the area.  There will be plenty of opportunity for photographs of the wildlife, so bring your camera!   

The boat will have a bathroom on board and they offer complimentary bottled water.   Tickets are $35 for Adults, $30 for Seniors and $20 for Children 12 years old and under. 

Note: For safety reasons, in the case of inclement weather or high winds, the tour operator may postpone or cancel the cruise.

A scramble golf tournament to be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Twin Rivers Golf course.  Details are as follows:

1. Cost is $45 for golf, and range balls.

   • Cost is free if you have an active membership with Twin Rivers Golf Course.

2. Lunch is available for purchase.

3. Prizes are an additional $5 paid to Mike Giblin.

   • Prizes are awarded for first place, closest to the pin and longest drive.

4. You can join as a team or individually (will be paired up).

5. All players will hit from Senior tees.

6. SWRA members and spouses/significant others are invited

$50.00/person includes green fees, cart, range balls and prizes (paid separately to Mike Giblin)

Payment is due the day of play in cash or check.

SWRA happily extends an invitation to attend our Spring Picnic 🌸

Mission Barbecue will be catering the event. Food and beverage will be provided free of charge to all current (paid) members and their spouse/guest.

Although there are plenty of picnic tables you may wish to bring folding chairs for added comfort.

Members are allowed to bring alcoholic beverages as long as they are in non-glass containers.
